Moose is different

During a recent email discussion, an engineer remarked: "We already use static analysis tools. This is were Moose is standing also, am I right?"

Almost, but not quite. Moose is indeed about analysis, but there are three major differences between Moose and other tools:

  1. Most tools provide you with a one-way street that gets you pretty much automatically from data (your system) to the analysis result. Moose does it differently by letting you tweak existing analyses and adapt them to your context.
  2. Real problems are rarely single minded. Rather, they tend to come in multiple shapes and they typically require a combination of analyses. Moose offers solutions for the entire life cycle of an analysis, from importing and modeling various kinds of data, to multiple analysis algorithms and presentations.
  3. Ultimately, Moose is not a tool. It is a platform. Moose offers engines that enable you to build new tools (such as parsers, models, algorithms, visualizations, and even browsers) fast.

All in all, Moose turns the equation around 180 degrees: instead of complying to tools provided by external providers, you build the tools that make sense for you. This is what makes humane assessment possible.
