Analysis techniques

There are many possibilities to analyze a piece of data. Depending on the problem, you should pick the analysis that provides the wanted answer. But, to be able to pick, you should get comfortable with the choices available.

There are several angles from which to classify analyses techniques. One possibility is to look at them from the point of view of the general algorithm used. From this perspective we can have:

• metrics that summarize the system into numbers
• visualizations that summarize the system into pictures
• queries that reduce the analysis scope
• clustering algorithms that reveal groupings
