Assessment catch 22

Him: I have a problem with my system, and the system is too large.
Me: Analyze it.
Him: I am, but it takes too long because my system is large.
Me: Use a tool.
Him: I do not have one that matches my problem.
Me: Build one.
Him: It's too expensive.
Me: It does not have to be.
Him: I do not know how.
Me: Learn.
Him: I do not have time.
Me: Why not?
Him: Because I have to find a solution to my problem, and the system is too large.

There are several ways to get out of this loop:

  1. Work only on small systems that can be understood at a glance.
  2. Get the world to stay put until you manage the problem.
  3. Build the appropriate tools that complement your capabilities.

While the first two might be appealing, humane assessment offers you the third way. It is simply a matter of changing the perspective.
