The path to adopting assessment
Assessment is a game played by two kinds of players: the stakeholders and the facilitators. If you want your team to play the game, you first have to train the players. Each of them requires a different set of skills that should be trained individually.
The stakeholders drive the assessment effort:
- The first step is to learn to specify the concerns explicitly.
- The second step is to learn how to transform the analysis output into actions.
- Finally, they have to learn how to initiate and drive the process.
The facilitators ensure that the assessment process works out smoothly.
- First, they have to learn to work with stakeholders to identify valuable concerns.
- Second, they have to learn to craft tools fast. This implies learning a technology like Moose, and learning how to use these tools to answer concerns.
- Finally, they have to learn to facilitate and ensure that stakeholders reach decisions.
